INTRODUCTION

 

A while ago I used to write applications for another website that has since then closed down. I thought it was sad to lose all those cool applications that I had created. So I decided I will include them here in the blog for all to read and download. So before I start with the technical things about the application I thought I will give you some background into the inspiration in to the creation of this application.

 

This application was inspired by a conference I attended about IT security. One of the topics was Steganography. I found this subject interesting and hence did a bit more research and eventually wrote this application.

 

So now the information about the application.

 

 

lackBox is a software application that makes use of steganography.You have the ability to hide messages within Bitmap (BMP) files with no changes to the image or even the any of its properties, such as its file size. Useful for people who would like to send anonymous messages.

 

The program can only hide text within a Bitmap image (.bmp). Future plans are tp extend this to wav files and compressed image files such as JPEGs and GIFs.

 

Black Box is an example of Steganography. Basically hiding a message in plain sight. I wrote a Blog post about it if you interested in reading. The post is called Stego?.

 

BlackBox makes use of a single Bitmap to hide any written message. This secret message can be concealed within the image without any obvious changes to the Bitmap image, ie File Size and Image look identical to the orginal. So the viewer of the Bitmap image will not thing twice when reviewing the image. However just in case all Stego-Images may be locked using a password.
